Troubleshooting - FastTrek Docs
FastTrek not doing what you expect? Here are some troubleshooting tips to get you back on track.
Sometimes things don’t go as smoothly as we all hope. Here are a couple of troubleshooting tips when FastTrek isn’t doing what you expect.
Use the Setup Wizard
The wizard shows solutions to common problems:
- Optimise game settings
- Automatically install the Community Mod for large game windows (usually on 4k).
- Automatically adjust mod scaling settings.
- Test screen reading and keyboard input.
Check the 'Start' tab
FastTrek's Start tab may show a warning to alert you to certain issues:
- The game window can't be 'seen'.
- The game has been resized.
Re-run ship detection
Ship detection underpins all ship-related functionality.
- Fix 'unknown' ship status.
- Fix ships not doing anything.

Log Files
FastTrek keeps detailed log files of what it thinks it is seeing and what actions it is taking. I will usually ask for the log if you ask for support with any kinds of unexpected behaviour.
To find the log file you can usually use the link on the ‘Start’ tab, which should open Windows File Explorer or MacOS Finder pointing at the right location.
If that doesn’t work, you can find the logs manually:
