The Setup Wizard - FastTrek Docs

FastTrek's setup wizard checks your game configuration and offers solutions.

FastTrek incorporates a setup wizard which will run on first start.

It checks your game configuration and offers solutions to common problems that may impair FastTrek’s ability to see, interpret, or interact with the game.

Check: Game is Running

The first check the setup wizard performs is to see if Star Trek Fleet Command is running.

The game window is located using its window title, which must match “Star Trek Fleet Command”. Using the Community Mod’s multi-instance feature with a unique window title is not currently supported.

Check: Game Configuration

As detailed in Preparing STFC for FastTrek, certain game settings are required for FastTrek to operate correctly. The setup wizard checks these settings and offers to fix them automatically if they are not set correctly.

This step should pass if you have already followed the instructions in the Preparing STFC guide.

Check: Game window size and scaling

FastTrek was designed to work with a variety of screen sizes and resolutions. All in-game graphics are located using image recognition, which would be affected by the size and scaling of the game window. To ensure the scale of FastTrek’s expectations matches what your game is showing, the scaling needs to match.

The HUD scales above 1024 vertical pixels

If your game window is taller than 1024 pixels, FastTrek requires the Community Mod to be installed and active. The mod allows the game’s scaling to be fixed, regardless of the actual window size.

Possible solutions:

  • Reduce the window height to 1024 pixels or less
  • Install and enable the Community Mod,
    setting ui_scale = 0.75 and ui_scale_viewer = 1
  • On 4k or Retina displays, set ui_scale to match the scaling factor of your display

On MacOS, the Community Mod needs to be installed manually. See Community Mod for instructions.

Minimum size: 800x600

FastTrek requires a minimum game size of 800x600 pixels to operate correctly. This is because some screens (notably errors) cannot be recognised at lower resolutions.

Possible solutions:

  • Increase the game window size to at least 800x600 pixels

Community Mod presence and configuration

If the Community Mod is detected, the setup wizard checks that it is configured correctly for FastTrek.

Possible solutions:

  • Install the Community Mod if it is not present (optional)
  • Update the Community Mod if FastTrek comes bundled with a newer version
  • Set ui_scale = 0.75 and ui_scale_viewer = 1 in the mod’s configuration file
  • On 4k or Retina displays, set ui_scale to match the scaling factor of your display

Check: Screen Recognition

This tests FastTrek’s ability to recognise which screen the game is currently showing. The prior checks should ensure that this works correctly.

If you encounter problems here, manually place the game in the System screen (Stock: F3 / Mod: H) and restart the wizard. In some cases it may also be necessary to run FastTrek as Administrator (Windows) or with elevated permissions (Mac OS).

Check: Keyboard Input

This tests FastTrek’s ability to send keyboard input to the game. To do this it will attempt to switch to the Galaxy Screen, then back to the System screen.

If you encounter problems here, it could be due to lag. ‘Prime’ the game to load these screens faster by manually visiting the Galaxy screen (Stock: F4 / Mod: G) and the System screen (Stock: F3 / Mod: H) once before restarting the wizard.

If all checks pass, the wizard will automatically open the Ship Detection screen if you have not run it before.
