Hostile Hunt - FastTrek Docs

Automate hostile hunt with the FastTrek Bot for Star Trek Fleet Command. Recall when full and repeat to stock up on probes, venom, and other special loot.

FastTrek’s Hostile Hunt automation allows you to automatically seek out and engage hostiles.

Setting Up Hostile Hunt

  1. Crew your ship of choice.
  2. Select the Ship Tab for the ship you want to configure.
  3. Select “Hostile Hunt” from the list of available automation types.
  4. Configure the automation.
  5. Start the automation, or “start paused” if you have more ships to set up.

Mirror Universe

For effective (and repeat) grinding in the Mirror Universe, please remember to set your recall timer.

For rift navigation, you will also need to calibrate your keyboard pan as described here.

Target type restrictions

You can choose to restrict the type of hostiles that your ship will engage. Select from Interceptor, Explorer, Battleship or Surveys. Making no selection or selecting all types will result in the ship engaging all types of hostiles.

Level restrictions

You can choose to restrict the range of levels of hostiles that your ship will engage.

A best effort is made to determine the level of each hostile. For some levels (74 or above) this may involve OCR, which could be inaccurate.

Faction restrictions

This option is intended for grinding in the Veil, which contains hostiles from multiple FKR factions. Use in any other system is strongly discouraged.

Wait for Shield Recharge

When enabled, the ship will wait for its shields to recharge before engaging the next hostile. Taking into account the time it takes to locate the next hostile, it will actually do so when shields are above around 85%.

Avoid Elites

When enabled, the ship will avoid engaging elite hostiles (those with a skull icon).

Adjust Targeting

Hostiles are detected and tracked by their type icon (e.g. Interceptor, Explorer, Battleship, Survey), but to select the hostile we need to click on the ship itself - the “red triangle” or ship model depending on zoom level.

V’Ger Bioships have a slightly different distance between icon and clickable spot, which can cause FastTrek to click slightly off-target and miss the hostile, especially on certain zoom levels and resolutions.

Tests have shown that FastTrek usually clicks in the right spot, but on some resolutions or zoom levels, it may click slightly off and miss the hostile.

The “adjust targeting” option allows you to adjust the click position to compensate.

To configure the offset:

  1. Open Settings and navigate to “Ship Behaviour”.
  2. Locate the “Adjust Targeting Offset” setting.
  3. Increase or decrease as needed. A negative number moves the click position to the left, a positive number moves it to the right.
  4. Test the new setting by starting the hostile hunt automation and observing whether it successfully clicks on hostiles.

Tips for Grinding Hostiles

When using FastTrek’s auto-combat feature, “Recall when full” is most useful for grinding Actian, Borg, Voyager, J’em Hadar, Silent, or similar hostiles.

Auto-combat tends to be slightly less efficient than a manual run, however, the point with FastTrek is that you don’t need to be sat in front of the screen.

So if for example you normally hunt Actian in a level 45 system and know exactly how to split between Chrysalis and Apex, that’s great for a manual grind - you’ll fill with minimal time and hull spent. But FastTrek doesn’t know this, so maybe try level 44 instead, so you know FastTrek will come home with a full load, even if it takes slightly longer to do so.

Human Contention

In systems with lots of human activity, FastTrek will probably perform worse than a human player, because it does not (yet) anticipate their moves. This may result in competing for the same hostiles and potentially annoying other players. You might be better off waiting and coming back later to avoid peak play hours on your server, or to head to a different, possibly lower level system and let FastTrek grind it out.

FAQ and Troubleshooting

How do I configure more than one ship, it moves my mouse as soon as I start?
Use the 'Start Paused' button instead of starting outright. This will allow you to configure multiple ships before using 'Resume All'.
It always clicks next to the hostiles, narrowly missing every time!
Please see the "Adjust Targeting" setting above.
Clicks always seem to trail the hostile, as if it's always one step behind!
Mouse clicks might register too late due to lag or performance issues. Please try adjusting Settings > Advanced > Mouse Click Duration for moving targets.
It clicks on the hostile, but then clicks 'out of bounds'!
The 'out of bounds' click is an intentional click to deselect the current target. It actually means that FastTrek couldn't verify that the target was valid. For example, the game may have selected a nearby planet or mining node, or it may look like a player ship rather than a hostile. If using the Community Mod, try disabling its loot/cargo preview option using Alt+4.
