Keyboard Pan - FastTrek Docs
Calibrate keyboard pan speed for accurate rift navigation and movement within systems.
Keyboard pan using the WASD keys is used to adjust the ‘camera’ position within a system.
A good example is Mirror Universe navigation, for which the panning duration may need to be adjusted in order to function perfectly.
Where to find the setting
Open Settings > Ship Behaviour and scroll down:
Calibrating keyboard pan speed
Keyboard pan speed is set as the time it takes to horizontally pan from one side of a system to the other.
The setting basically tells FastTrek how long it should hold down the ‘D’ key in order to move the system view from left to right. This seems to depend on various factors including, but not limited to, keyboard stroke repeat rate, graphics settings, machine performance.
What’s a successful pan?
This video shows what a successful keyboard pan should look like.
A successfully configured keyboard pan speed will pan from the left hand side all the way to the right hand side of a system.
Testing
Testing can be done in any system, you do not need to be in the Mirror Universe for this.
Open any system and position the view near the left hand edge, as shown in the video.
Use the ‘Test’ button to test the current setting. After a brief pause, FastTrek will move the view to the right, and you can observe how far it has moved.
Make an adjustment to the time, then test again to see the effect of the change.
Repeat this until you’re satisfied. You’re now ready to use Mirror Universe navigation to its full potential.
How accurate does this need to be?
It doesn’t need to be exact to the pixel. However, some rifts in the mirror universe are close together, and as such you will definitely want it to stop near the right hand edge of the system and not in the middle.
